Feely Bags
Gather together some objects. You will want 2 of each object and a total of either 8 or 10 things altogether.
Depending on your child’s age;
You could use different shaped and textured beads. See picture 1
Or
You could use construction toys and milk bottle tops. See picture 2
Or
For very young children you can use different toys. See picture 3.
Place your chosen objects inside a cotton bag.
I am showing them inside a gift bag (picture 4) so you can see the actual objects inside but to play the game you must use a bag where the objects can’t be seen.
I had some draw string bags made out of colourful cotton. 22cm x 24cm seemed a good size for the bags. Half a metre will make 4 bags. See picture 5.
To play the game you or your child need to take one object out of the bag and place it in front of them.
Now your child has to feel around inside the bag (without looking) to find the toy that matches the one that has been taken out.
Your child has to feel the shape, the size and the texture of the objects to find the matching toy.
Later you could try putting into the bag, objects that are more similar.
